On July 10, several photos were posted to Facebook along with a description of the situation, "Today, on a 102 degree heat-index day, 2 pitbulls are being held captive in a tortuous plywood box. Steaming in their own waste and uric acid. See the eyes staring through the little hole?"
Those following the situation on Facebook are appalled that anyone in an authority position could find a plywood box suitable to keep a dog in - especially given the heat and humidity in Florida this time of year.
BY THE WAY, THEY TOOK DOWN THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE, MOST LIKELY TO THE UPROAR OF ANIMAL LOVERS NOT GETTING THEIR MENTALITY TO THINK THAT THIS IS OK.
Local police visited the home on Nellie Street over the weekend and determined that there were no code violations which would warrant them removing the dogs from the property. The responding officers determined that the dogs did not look distressed. The individual who posted the photos to Facebook wrote:
I did 3 civil rights audits on this station. In my professional opinion iv'e found them to be congruent and in compliance with the constitution.
Despite sweltering summer heat, and an apparent lack of comforting ventilation, police in Palatka, Florida, have determined that a stark wooden box, which holds a dog inside, is good enough to meet code requirements, reported Sunday's News 4 Jax. The authorities were called out to perform a welfare check on the dog in the box, in addition to a dog tethered to a tree, after photos of the situation were posted on social media.
FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ABOUT A COMPLAINT ABOUT THEIR OFFICERS INVESTIGATING DOGS STUCK IN 102 DEGREE HEAT INSIDE A WOODEN BOX AND NOTHING BEING DONE, I WOULD SAY THEY ARE INCOMPETENT. SEE INFO BELOW AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.
2 PPD cops (1 canine officer) don't go into backyard, stood at fence and take pics. Neighbor overhears one get on the phone and tell 'whoever' he can see dogs in box. They just leave. DOGS ARE STILL IN THE BOX.
Thank you for all you all do
Some of the nicest police that you can find. Everyone I have talked to is so friendly and polite. They are willing to help out in anyway they can. After hours, they have an emergency blue light pole at the front door that you can push the button and you will be able to talk to someone.
